Yes it does, and it makes a difference whether those scales (cuticle) are laying flat or standing out . Laying flat they give hair a shiny appearance, standing out they give hair a dry, fuzzy appearance.
You say, how can I get them to lay down ? Make sure when you blow your hair dry, that the hot hair is always going away from the scalp, closing the cuticle down. Also, your flat iron will close the cuticle down, and give you a wonderful shiny result. Do remember, all styling applicances will cause hair to be dryer, so always treat your hair good, and give it good nutirents such as, good conditioner & heat protectors.
Yes, you can have a perm and color and still have healthy hair !! We are all so fortunate that the hair company "Tressa" has spent lots of time and research making this possible. You can actually get a perm and color and end up with healthier hair than you started with.

Did you know you should use your dryer and take at least 90% of the moisture out of your hair before you ever put a round brush to it, especially if you don't have time to leave it in a towel. I have customers tell me, they have always started with really wet hair, and their arms wear out !! Wow, knowing this can save so much time, and energy! For some reason, we women think hair has to be a lot of work, but I always say, the style is in the cut, and with the right products, the hair can't do anything else, making styling time a breeze!
Another fun thing to do, is style your hair with a larger size round brush, and watch it take on a whole new look. Friends will think you got it cut or something is different. Even if your hair is only 3 in long, style it around a huge brush, and if it is texturized, you won't believe the new look you will have. Our old thioughts were that the hair has to go all the way around the brush, try styling out of the box and see what happens ! Do remember you need the right products for it to hold though, no matter what type of hair you have.
Do you wish you could find a styling product that would work on your hair, like you think it should ? One little step that might make a BIG difference is to leave your hair in a towel for at least 10min. after you shampoo. This allows the water that is caught in your hair cuticle (yea, did you know your hair had cuticle??? More on that later !!!) to be absorbed by the towel, then your gel/foam will go down into the hair, and actually work for you better. Those of you with fine hair, yes, your hair will be mostly dry by the time you take the towel off, but even better for the product to work. By the time you learn all the new steps, everyone will be asking you if you have a new stylist, and you can say, no, I DID IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!
